Leak detection
When water damage occurs in a building, leaks in water, wastewater, or heating pipes are often the cause. Modern measuring devices such as infrared cameras or video endoscopes can be helpful in locating these leaks. Even if structural or storm damage is suspected, it is important to rule out water-carrying pipes as the source.

Measurement techniques:
- Electronic moisture measurement: Capacitive or resistance measurement can be used to identify moisture hotspots within a building. This allows the affected area and the location of the damage to be pinpointed.
- Thermography: Using an infrared camera, the paths of hot water or heating pipes can be visualized. Similarly, leaks of hot water can be located.
- Electroacoustics: Leaks or burst pipes in pressurized lines such as water or heating systems generate sound waves. These can be located with pinpoint accuracy using a floor microphone or test rod.
- Electrical cable locating: Metallic cables generate a magnetic field when an electric current is applied. This field can be located using a receiver. Non-metallic cables, such as plastic or clay conduits, can be located using a fiber optic probe system.
- Tracer gas method: The defective pipe is emptied and filled with a tracer gas. The gas escapes at the leak point and diffuses – even through relatively dense building components such as concrete, screed, and floor coverings – and can be detected using a tracer gas measuring device.
- Video endoscopy: Using a high-quality video endoscope, leaks in cavities or utility shafts can be located. Only an 8 mm diameter borehole is required.
